If a dog threatens or chases you while cycling in Champaign County, call the non-emergency METCAD number to report it (217-333-8911). They will send either the county animal control officer or a sheriff’s deputy out to chat with the owners and either warn them or, if repeated incidents incidents have occurred with this dog, issue a citation to the owner, and/or impound the dog.
If the dog bites someone, call 911, as there are legal consequences for the owner.

The Piatt County Animal Control officer is on call. The officer serves only the rural and unincorporated areas of the county. He can be reached by calling (217)762-2812 or after hours by calling the Piatt County Sheriff’s Office at (217)762-5761.
